“The Power of Christ Compels You!”

I’m not normally a superstitious person. I don’t scream in fright if I see a black cat, and I certainly don’t crawl away from a ladder in my path.
But when you hear about the kind of things that occurred during the filming of The Exorcist, you wonder. Maybe there’s something to all the crazy.
Here’s the short list of the strange things that happened during production and shortly afterward;
1) Nine people connected to the film died from unnatural causes.
2) The set burned down inexplicably and caused the production to shut down for 6 weeks.
3) Ellen Burstyn permanently injured her tail bone, when her harness was pulled too hard during a scene and she had to fly backwards and hit the wall.
4) When the film was finally released into theatres, it was so scary that it caused (in some cities) mass hysteria and fainting spells.
Let’s just say that making a film about the Devil, well, it makes you pay your dues.

To make the scenes where the room becomes chilly, and you can see the actors breathe, the director decided to use 4 air conditioners and blast them all day. It’s been reported that the temperature sometimes reached as low as 30 below. For the young actress, Linda Blair, who only had a thin nightdress to wear, it must have been horrible. Ms. Blair now states that to this day, she cannot stand the cold.
