You would think that being the friend of an up and coming Hollywood actor would have its perks. And indeed, sometimes it does. Actor Ed Burns has always been one to include his friends in whatever project he is working on. Yet, what's that saying?
With friends like this...
It seems that in the scene where Ed is reading names off a number of dog tags, he is actually using names of people he knew. The bitter irony of course being that the dog tags were supposed to be from soldiers who had been killed.
That Eddie, always willing to help out a pal. Even if he has to kill them to do it.

Matt Damon is one lucky so and so. Not only was he cast in the highly coveted title role of Private Ryan, but he was also spared the gruelling combat training and boot camp that the rest of the cast had to endure for the film. The horror! you say? The unfair injustice of it all? Who does that little Matty Damon think he is, skipping out on the tough stuff when Mr. Two Time Academy Award winner Hanks has to go through it himself?! Calm down folks. There were reasons. First, Matt Damon was only in the latter half of the film, so he only had to show up half way during filming. Also, and probably more importantly, the soldiers were supposed to resent Private Ryan. For the most part, they didn't even want to be on the mission in the first place. What better way to foster that sort of resentment in the soldiers than to foster it in the actors playing them.
