“I’m not even supposed to be here today!”


One wonders why the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America—organization that rates film releases) has such a strange track record when it comes to rating certain genres or films. You can go to a film and see about 2 and a half hours of blood and guts and enough bare skin to make Madonna blush, and that seems to be ok to warrant an R rating; but you say the F word a few too many times and the MPAA starts waving NC17 flags around. Kevin Smith (the director of Clerks) was so frustrated with the MPAA, and it’s assertion that Clerks had too much foul language for an R rating, that he and Miramax hired Alan Dershowitz (yes, O.J’s Alan Dershowitz) to fight the case. In the end, the film was released with an R rating. Go Kevin. Fight the %^&#@ Power!

Did you know that there are two endings to the film? The one seen in the theatrical release, and another, which was filmed but not used (you can see it on the DVD) where Dante was shot and killed during a robbery.
