'I feel the need, the need for speed'




So, Tom Cruise as a brass young fighter pilot. I can buy that. In 1986 a large number of people bought it, making Top Gun one of the highest grossing films of that year, earning an estimated 344 million dollars worldwide. (This is pre-Titanic folks, that's a lot of bank for the 80's)
However, did you know that in reality, Tom could probably never make it as a real naval pilot? Is it because of his implausible good looks distracting the tough yet vulnerable naval instructors? Is it because his religious beliefs wouldn't allow it? Is it perhaps because he just couldn't handle the truth??
No folks. The hard, cold fact of the matter is that Mr. Big Shot Hollywood Star is just too little. Yep. At a lengthy stretch Tom tops off at 5'7inch, and the minimum height requirement is 5'8inch. Now, if Nicole wanted to fly the planes and shoot down the bad guys, she would have no problems.

Rumour has it that Mr. Kilmer had to be contractually forced into finishing the movie. Now, I don't know about the rest of you, but I'd just like to thank the studio executive who slapped Val's wrist and made him play fair with the other kiddies, because the film wouldn't be the same without the Iceman.
