'Here's lookin at you kid'


No one expected Casablanca to be the enormous success it turned out to be. Who can blame them? The movie was filmed on a shoe string budget and the script hadn't even been completed at the start of production. In fact, it's been widely reported that right up until the final scene, even the actors were unsure of the ending. Would Ilsa stay with Rick or go off and fight Nazi's with Lazlo? I won't ruin the ending of the film for those 6 people who have not actually seen the film. (And for those six, please, for all that's holy, move out of that rock you've been living under for the past 50 years!)

It's probably the most widely mis-quoted line in film history, but Rick never once says 'Play it again, Sam' in the movie. The actual quote is, 'You played it for her, you can play it for me. Play it!'

If indeed you are not one of the above mentioned six rock-people, and you have seen the film, you must remember the very last scene in the film. Rick and Louis walking away discussing their beautiful friendship and finally disappearing into the...fog? In Casablanca? Which is mostly desert? What, as the kids say, is up with that??
